Todorov's theory of narrative

The Hunger Games

Equilibrium
The equilibrium in the hunger games is where Katniss is living normally in district 13 with her family which consists of her mother and her sister Primrose. She goes out and hunts for food just outside the district, she gets there by sneaking through a broken section of the fence. She sells this for food in the quote on quote 'black market'.

Disruption
The disruption in the story is when the reaping day comes up for that year where a boy and a girl from each district are chosen to enter the hunger games. This reaping is Primrose's first, each year you are entered your name goes in another time. As Primrose was only entered once she was unexpected to be picked however she was, being a responsible older sister she took her place in the games.

Recognition
The recognition in the Hunger games is when Katniss is getting ready to go into the Games itself and the start of the games, when she realises and recognises that she actually may have a slight chance of wining the hunger games.

Repair
In the repair Katniss meets back up with the other district 13 and they fall in love as it is. They continue on killing off the rest of the competition, until only they remain then at the promise of suicide unless they both become victors instead of only one district 1 and President Snow gives in and allows them to both be victors

New equilibrium

The two winners from district 13 move into the victors houses of the district and move on to live a even better life than before until the second film
